Some philosophical guidelines
Clients are by and large human beings. They are real people with real feelings and problems, and a point of view worth listening to, however challenging.
And behind every awkward request is a sensible question or problem. Often, clients find it difficult to say exactly what they mean when they ask us to do something. So it’s down to us to understand what’s wrong or what needs doing and help clients refine the brief.
Although we have experience and expertise in many areas, we may not always know best. So listening carefully is very important.
Last but not least, we aim to be part of the solution, not part of the problem. We listen, we research, we brainstorm, but above all we enable clients to make informed decisions and deal with the issues. Ultimately, we want to transfer our knowledge and skills so that we can quietly leave the scene.
